PYP CPD Week 3

Three ways on how i can improve the questioning skills might be 1) start with the level one question for example like What is..? 2) throw another questions based on what their questions and answers and can try to ask higher level questions such as what if, or how and why, at this stage can start to ask their own opinion and 3) do the questioning during the circle time in order to ensure the students are engage during the questioning time. I will try to implement the techniques in my own classrooms.

MYP CPD Week2 G1

Summary of CPE:

In this first session, we were asked to choose one picture out of four pictures that we think represent our teaching styles and sharing about why we choose that and our strategies to overcome negativity and obstacles. We learned about four different stages in teaching, which are fantasy, survival, mastery and impact. We then separated into three groups and we need to do the Y-chart of the concept of positive expectation, we it look like, what it sound like and how it feel like in teaching. Then, we presented the ideas. Lastly, we have to analyze a case study and how we will applying what we have learnt during the session.

Benefits of knowledge and understanding of Classroom Management and its importance to be effective teachers.

There are many benefits for the teacher to know and understand about Classroom Management to become an effective teacher because when we already have an effective strategies for example to catch the students’ attention, then the lesson will happen smoothly. There will not be many unnecessary interruption in the classroom during the lesson.

How good classroom management impacts our learners?

When the good classroom management happen, the students will be more interested in completing the task or activities in the classroom. The students will also be motivated and eager to learn new thing because of the positive environment and get inspired by the teacher.

Example from a lesson.

One criteria of good classroom management is the positive expectations and invitational teaching. I will clearly state my KUD at the start for every new lesson. For example in the lesson we learnt about houses, the space or part in the houses and the functions of every space in the house. I shared about my house to the students and they excitedly share about their own houses too. Then, they were given task of drawing the house plan and to label every part of the houses. The students managed to complete the task with their best effort.

What are your challenges in terms of integrating to the Programme of Inquiry?

As for Malay Language, in my opinion the challenges come when applying the integration will be that the Malay Department already have our own Unit Planner for every Phases and every Grades. The Unit title, Global Context, ATL Skills, Lesson Plan have already been set and need to be implemented to our own class. The assessments also have already been set up by different persons from all the campuses. We need to follow our Head of Department requirements and also the coordinators. In order to do integration, we will need to do a bit changes in the lesson plan for our own classes but need to make sure every elements will be done.

PYP CPD 9 November 2018

Today in PYP CPD we discussed about the Students Perception Survey. The discussion starts about how we as the teacher feel, look and sound of the survey. There are a lot of mix positives and negatives perspectives from the teachers’ sides. I, myself feel that the red hat of the survey that they are important and good to practice despite some feeling of nervous to find the findings of the survey. The yellow hat is the survey will be providing information about what the students perspective of the teachers and it will help teachers improve their skills and techniques of teaching.
